Our Process: An Overview

In addition to the treatment options outlined above, our intake and therapeutic procedures involve the following:

Initial Assessment:  The introductory evaluation is conducted by Dr. Moore who has worked exclusively with eating disorders for many years. The assessment of the patient’s needs includes a brief medical exam.  The purpose of the evaluation is to assess the patient’s physical and mental health and to determine an appropriate course of treatment. If the patient is a minor, an additional visit may be required to complete the evaluation and parents may wish to make an appointment for a family session or a consultation.

Medical Assessment and Lab Work-up:  Appropriate lab tests may be ordered for new and continuing patients.  Additional lab work is usually required as patients move through their treatment.

Family Therapy:  Patients involved with the Phase 1 Program will participate in a planned family night once a month.  Individual family sessions will be recommended, especially if the patient is a minor.  The Moore Center programs strive to provide care and assistance to each patient within the framework of a safe and nurturing group setting. In addition, every Friday evening, except Family Night, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., The Moore Center conducts a family support group for parents, spouses, and other concerned family members and friends of current patients involved in our programs.  The cost is $10.00 per person and is held at The Moore Center clinic.

Individual and/or family therapy sessions: One-on-one counseling and family sessions are strongly recommended during the course of the programs to provide additional support.  This opportunity is always available separately from the program offerings.

Individual nutritional counseling: Individual nutrition sessions are strongly urged for all patients of The Moore Center to educate and manage eating habits. Most patients require individualized therapy in addition to the nutritional counseling included within the framework of the Phase 1 and 2 Programs.

Medication Management: Patients who require medication in addition to their therapy will be regularly monitored by Dr. Moore.

Consultations: Consultations are available to family members and other caring support persons for prospective or current patients.

Note:  Eating Disorders are tenacious and play a very important part in the patient’s life.  Because of the difficulty of uncovering and treating the underlying issues that drive eating disordered behavior, treatment usually takes at least 6 months and, probably more, before recovery is attained.  Please be patient with yourself and your loved one!
